Plot

Synopsis

The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen's Guild Dramatic Society's Production of Macbeth is an uproarious and hilarious comedy. The intrepid ladies of the F.A.H.E.T.G. Dramatic Society, together with their daring Producer, David and Stage Manager Henry stage this classic tragedy in their own original and unique way. Their production should guarantee them a place in the Drama Finals at Richmond after nine months of painstaking rehearsals.

However, under the carefully mascara'd eye of adjudicator Mr. George Peach, events conspire to ensure that everything will not be all right on the night. Injured Kate bravely troupes on with a leg in plaster only to find her injuries more painful and numerous as the evening progresses; Lady Macbeth misses her bus stop and gets carried away by public transport so that Henry must manfully step into the breach - minus his spectacles. And as if this isn't enough, Peach announces they have eight and a half minutes left in which to finish most of the final act, otherwise they are disqualified.

As usual the ladies rise to the occasion - they may not reach Richmond, but they come close to doing for Macbeth what Tom Stoppard did for Hamlet.
